Is 1.0 worth buying?

The percentages are the store's. The verdict at the end is mine, and it is labeled that way.

At the 7 Nov 2026 09:21 UTC check, the US Steam store showed Very Positive: 170 recent reviews at 80% positive and 759 English-language reviews at 82% positive. The appdetails API at 09:15 UTC returned 3,705 recommendations. Gameoneer cited 3,619 reviews in its 5 Nov article. These are separate dated snapshots, not figures to combine. The store record supplies no Metacritic score; no score is inferred from launch coverage.

Gameoneer's 5 Nov piece is the hands-on I can actually quote. It describes more than 200 craftable items, more than 60 skills on 20 paths, 11 vehicles, and a power grid of more than ten facilities. It sets the game between Project Zomboid's patience and Cataclysm's system depth, and it says the tone is closer to an action game than a realistic simulator. Those counts are that article's, not a table I rebuilt.

What 1.0 itself added, from the launch post, is the Far Island, co-op up to eight, and the launch discount. Patch 1.0.4 arrived the same day. A solo-developed game that patches on launch day is a reason to read the notes, not a reason to invent a score.

My judgment, separate from those figures: if you want a top-down island you can host with friends and you can accept 2023 wiki numbers being stale, the Steam page is the buy. If you need a scored review from a large outlet, that review was not in the sources I opened.

The latest public patch at this check is 1.0.5 on 7 Nov 2026. It addresses co-op character progress rollback and adds meal buffs, final-boss loot, UI and building changes (one official source).

Questions

What do players say?

At the 7 Nov 2026 09:21 UTC check, Steam showed Very Positive, with 80% of 170 recent reviews positive. This is a store snapshot.

How does it compare to Project Zomboid?

Gameoneer uses Zomboid for slow punishment and Cataclysm for system depth. I am not adding a third comparison I have no source for.
