Games like ZED ZONE
Two comparisons from a hands-on, plus six recommendations that already include their own warnings.
Gameoneer's November piece is the one that actually argues a comparison. It puts Project Zomboid on the side of slow punishment, the door you should not have opened, and Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead on the side of system depth. ZED ZONE, in that telling, borrows the depth and plays faster, and it is not a realistic simulator. I am not adding a third axis from a game the article never mentions.
Secluded Gems lists six Steam games with a reason and a flaw. Cepheus Protocol is an open-world military survival RTS with a mobile base, and the caveat is deep menus and awkward controls. Zompiercer is survival crafting on a train you customize, with early enemies that feel unfair and combat that is hard to aim. ATOM RPG Trudograd is a turn-based Soviet aftermath RPG whose fights outnumber you. Tunguska: The Visitation is stealth and crafting in a closed zone, with clumsy controls. Delivery from the Pain is city survival with story choices and basic combat. The Last Stand Legacy Collection is older base defense, and the caveat is old bugs.
The order is the other site's order. It is not a score. I did not check prices. Follow each name on Steam rather than trusting a number from me. None of these is a download of ZED ZONE, and none of them replaces the Windows store page.

Questions
Is it like Project Zomboid?
Gameoneer says Zomboid is slower and punishes one bad door. That is their line, not a score.
Are the six games ranked?
No. The list keeps the order and the caveat from Secluded Gems.
