How to boil water
Dirty water, a container, and heat. The well is a separate claim.
Contaminated water is the reason the old guides tell you to boil. You need a container and a fire. The big plastic bucket is item id 1107 in both the Fandom list and the 2025 command guide, and those pages call it one of the large fluid containers for water or fuel. A cooking pot is a workbench recipe in the 2023 station page. I do not have a 1.0 boil time.
The campfire is the heat source in the build menu screenshot, sitting next to the stone furnace. Cooking as a system, including the hob, is the next guide. If you only need a drink, the fire plus a filled container is the chain the newbie guide describes.
Wells are on the store page, so they exist. The claim that a well removes water scarcity comes from one 2023 Chinese guide. I leave it as a single source. Rain on an outdoor planting pot is a farming rule, not a drinking rule, and it does not belong in this chain.
Fuel for the fire is wood, id 0 in the command guide. An ignition tool is id 21. I am not extending that into a required lighter for every boil, because the guides also describe starting a campfire from the build menu once you have the materials.

Questions
What container do I use?
A pot or the big plastic bucket, id 1107. Any large fluid container in the item list is the same idea.
Does the well replace boiling?
Only one 2023 guide says the well ends scarcity. The store only confirms that wells exist.
